HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 cc299-300W
Mr. Hicks

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total amount paid to date by business activities located in the South-West Development Area in selective employment tax and the amount refunded as rebates.

Mr. Higgins

I regret that the information is not available.

Mr. Hicks

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total amount since inception paid by Her Majesty's Government to the South-West Development Area in investment grants, retraining and removal allowances, regional employment premiums, and selective employment tax rebates.

Mr. Higgins

I regret that the information is not available for re-training and removal expenses, nor for refunds of selective employment tax. Since inception and up to 31st March, 1970, the additional element in selective employment premiums (withdrawn from 1st April, 1970), totalled about £1.7 million, investment grants totalled about £9.4 million and regional employment premiums totalled about £4.2 million. These figures are estimates; the basic records are kept in a form which does not enable me to give a more precise answer.
