Mr. Hall-Davis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what was the marginal rate of tax on average earnings in manufacturing industry, three-quarters average earnings, and one and half times average earnings, in each of the years 1945 to 1970 for a married man with no children, a married man with two children under 11 years, and a single man, respectively;

(2) what was the effective rate of tax in each of the years 1945 to 1970 on average earnings in manufacturing industry, three-quarters average earnings, one and a quarter average earnings and one and a half times average earnings in respect of a married man with no children, a married man with two children under 11 and a single man;

(3) what was the effective rate of tax and the marginal rate of tax on the combined earnings of a husband with average earnings in manufacturing industry and wife with two-thirds of average earnings in manufacturing industry with no children in each of the years 1945 to 1970 and after 5th April, 1971, calculated on the basis of his proposals of 27th October.
