HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 c293W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Minister of Aviation Supply whether he will publish the measurements taken at the various official stations on the Concorde test route since the trials began, and at the same time state the height and speed of the aircraft and its distance from a point directly over the measuring station.

Mr. David Price

A report on the measurements of Concorde's boom will be published as soon as sufficient data is available for a proper analysis of the results to be made. The report will include information on the height, speed and position of the aircraft.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Minister of Aviation Supply why Concorde on the majority of the supersonic test flights that have so far taken place has failed to fly anywhere near the recording and measuring equipment installed at St. David's; and why on one occasion when it was on course the equipment was not manned.

Mr. David Price

Only two of the seven flights so far over Pembrokeshire have diverged significantly from the published track. The flight on 1st September was six to seven miles east of this track but was within the boom corridor. The flight on 2nd October was 20 to 25 miles east due to a fault in the navigation system. The equipment was not manned on 7th October because there was a last-minute change in flight plan due to the unserviceability of one of the monitoring radars and it was not possible to give all the measuring teams adequate advance warning of the time the aircraft would be overhead.
