HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 c294W
Mr. Marks

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what estimate has been made of the number of civil servants who will be paid salaries or wages for the first three days of certified sickness.

Mr. David Howell

All civil servants who have not exhausted their entitlement to paid sick leave receive salary or wages at the appropriate rate for the first three days of any sick absence. Based on the best information available it is estimated that in a period of 12 months some 250,000 industrial and non-industrial civil servants will be absent on certificated sick leave.
