HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 c273W
88. Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what facilities now exist in the Manchester area for in-patient adolescent psychiatric treatment and for the treatment of autistic children; and how this compares with London and the Home Counties.

Mr. Alison

The Manchester Hospital Region has two special units for mentally ill adolescents providing 40 beds, and expect to open another with 32 beds towards the end of next year. The four Metropolitan Hospital regions have seven units providing 155 beds. Autistic children are usually treated with other mentally disordered children. The Manchester Region has four units for mentally ill or seriously maladjusted children with 57 beds, including one specially for the autistic. The Metropolitan Regions have ten children's units with 118 beds.
