HC Deb 29 May 1970 vol 801 cc612-3W
Mr. Tom Boardman

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what was the percentage reduction in the house building programme for 1968, 1969 and 1970 of Leicester City Council that was requested by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Freeson:

No percentage reduction was requested by the Ministry. In 1967 the city council was invited to review its programme, which was then proposed to be 1,100 dwellings to start in 1968. The programme was agreed at 1,500 dwellings to go to tender in 1968 to 1970. The number eventually put to tender in 1968 was 580, In 1969, against a programme of 500, 147 dwellings were put to tender. I understand that the programme for 1970 has now been increased to 900 dwellings to go to tender.
