HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 c578W
Mr. Bessell

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will give an undertaking that a new London Airport site will be selected before the end of this year and that construction will commence immediately with a view to being operational by not later than the end of 1973 and completed by 1975.

Mr. Mason:

A decision on the siting and the timing of the need for this airport must follow the receipt of the report and recommendations of the Commission on the Third London Airport. Though I cannot give an assurance that the decision will be taken by any particular date, I recognise the need to avoid any undue delay.
