§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give, for the latest most convenient stated date, the total annual revenue from the road fund excise duty, giving the amounts from private vehicles and industrial or other types separately; and, in view of the fact that in London some 15 per cent. are failing to pay this duty, what is his estimate of the loss of revenue, on the basis that 15 per cent. of all vehicle owners nationally fail to pay this duty.
§ Mr. Taverne:In 1969–70 receipts of vehicle excise duty amounted to £267.5 million for private vehicles and £143.5 million for commercial vehicles. In reply to the second part of the Question, I have nothing to add to the answer I gave to my hon. Friend on 15th May.—[Vol. 801 c. 439.]
