HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 c499W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many public relations and Press officers are at present employed in the information branches of Government Departments; how many such posts are vacant; and what were the corresponding figures for 31st October, 1964.

Mr. Shore:

There is no civil service grade of public relations officer or Press officer. The complement of information officers and equivalents in Departments' information branches was 495 on 1st March, 1970, and 372 on 31st October, 1964. No detailed information about unoccupied posts is readily available, but the number would have been small on either date.
