Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will publish in tabulated form the number of days of annual paid leave, including bank holidays and privilege leave, enjoyed by public employees in the Civil Service, local government and departmental police, respectively, distinguishing wherever possible between those receiving gross salaries under £1,000 per year, between £1,000 and £1,500 per annum, between £1,500 and £2,000 per annum, and above £2,000 per annum, or such other salary bands as are conveniently available.

Mr. Shore:

The information on the Civil Service is as follows:

staff have reserved rights to 3 weeks paid leave and certain others have the allowance fixed for their trade by National Agreement.

In addition all industrial and non-industrial staff are allowed a maximum of 9 public and privilege holidays during the year. This consists of 8 full days and one half-day for staff working 5½ days a week

Chief Inspector 1,810 Initial allowance—30 days.
After 10 years service—33 days.
Superintendent 2,130 Initial allowance—34 days.
After 10 years service—37 days.
Assistant Chief Constable 2,325 to 3,650 6 working weeks—maximum 33 days, plus 9 public and privilege holidays.

Grades up to and including Chief Inspector work a 5—day week. The Superintendent grade and certain higher ranks work the equivalent of a 10½—day fort-night.

The allowances for grades of Superintendent and below are inclusive of 9

* The number of days shown for staff earning in excess of £1,575 is the minimum and may be increased at the discretion of the employing authority.

INDUSTRIAL STAFF (on a 5 day week basis)
All staff:
After 12 months' service 16 days
After 5 years' service 19 days
After 6 years' service 20 days
After 7 years' service 21 days

The number of days shown for both industrial and non-industrial staff includes 6 public holidays. Additional privilege holidays may be granted at the discretion of the employing authority.
