HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 cc510-1W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity why she has granted Mr. Aubrey Jones a salary of £18,000 per annum; for what reasons he has been granted leave of absence to tour Hungary and Czechoslovakia; and whether his salary will continue to be paid during his absence.

Mr. Dell:

I consider such a salary appropriate for the chairmanship of the proposed new Commission. I understand that Mr. Aubrey Jones spent five days in Budapest and Prague at the suggestion of the authorities concerned in those countries with matters of prices and incomes. No question of leave of absence therefore arose.
