HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 cc526-7W
Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, in view of the intention of the European Movement to intervene in the General Election, he will withdraw the subsidy paid to it from public funds.

Mr. Foley:

No. As was made clear in the debate of 19th December last, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office grant is given to assist the British Council of the European Movement in organising exchanges of views with Europeans. It is not available for activities directed at the British public. There is, therefore, no reason to withdraw it.—[Vol. 793, c. 1740–68,]
