HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 c519W
Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a progress report on talks on pay for dockyard and other naval establishment workers following the recent report by the National Board for Prices and Incomes.

Dr. David Owen:

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave him earlier to a Question on a similar subject.

Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a statement on the pay and conditions of service for technical progressmen in Royal Naval dockyards.

Dr. David Owen:

These men are industrial civil servants with the normal conditions of service attaching to that class. They are paid an allowance of 20s. a week over the normal craft rate of 380s. Their rate of pay will be increased by the settlement of the claim for a general pay increase being negotiated on the Joint Co-ordinating Committee, and the claim for an increased rate of pay for the grade is in negotiation on the Shipbuilding Trades Joint Council.
