Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will state in cash amounts the extent to which he estimates the costs of the Civil Service will rise during the year 1970–71, as a result of the rise in the salary bill of the increased number of non-industrial staffs and the implementation of pay awards.

Mr. Shore:

By about £7.9 million in respect of the increased number of non-industrial staff during 1970–71 and by about £54.9 million in respect of the implementation of pay awards made so far.
