Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why pensions of the Basutoland Pioneer Corps have not been paid this year; and when payment will be resumed.

Mr. Richard:

So far as I am aware the pensions due to the former members of the African Pioneer Corps and their dependants in Lesotho have continued to be paid. Reimbursement to the Government of Lesotho was however delayed while our relations with the new régime were under consideration. The question of payment of outstanding claims for reimbursement of these pensions is now being urgently considered.
