asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will give a detailed analysis of the different costs of building in the various regions of the country, which account for the differences in the housing costs yardstick.

Mr. Greenwood:

Some broad indication of the quantitative differences in regional building costs for local authority five-bedspace houses is published in Table 20 of the Housing Statistics, No. 16, February. 1970. The cost yardstick, however, applies to dwellings of all types and its level in each region takes account of not only building costs but a wide range of other factors, such as standards and quality.
