HC Deb 15 May 1970 vol 801 cc377-8W
Mr. Ted Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress has been made by the Schools Council, in its discussions with the Standing Conference on University Entrance, on the adoption of uniformity of practice between all universities in recognising a Grade I Certificate of Secondary Education as equivalent to a pass at ordinary level General Certificate of Education.

Mr. Edward Short:

I understand from the Schools Council that it expects shortly to receive from the Standing Conference of University Entrance an up-to-date statement on the practice of each university in this matter. If the hon. Member wishes, I will ask the Schools Council if it will keep him informed of developments, but, as I said in reply to his Question on 9th March, it is a matter which individual universities must finally decide for themselves.
