§ Mr. Burdenasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the cost of collecting every £ sterling of income and surtax in 1964; and what were the comparable figures for the tax year 1969.
§ Mr. Taverne:In 1964 the cost was 3.60d. per £ gross received for taxes on income and profits and in 1969 3.17d. for 440W taxes on income, profits and capital gains. Separate figures for income tax, surtax and capital gains tax are not at present available.
