HC Deb 15 May 1970 vol 801 c385W
Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Anglo-Sudanese relations.

Mr. Luard:

Her Majesty's Government wish to maintain their present cordial relations with the Government of the Sudan. With regard to the Southern Sudan, their policy has not changed since the grant of independence to both Northerners and Southerners within a united Sudan in 1956. Her Majesty's Government naturally do not give support to any separatist organisation, and we welcome the efforts of the Sudanese Government to find a peaceful settlement in a framework of regional autonomy and to promote the integrated economic development of the whole country.
