HC Deb 15 May 1970 vol 801 cc433-4W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Minister of Transport what representations he has received from the National Bus Company about amendments to the Transport Act, 1968 in order to subsidise its operations.

Mr. Bob Brown:

None.

Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will introduce legislation to regulate the number and size of fare increase applications by component companies of the National Bus Company.

Mr. Bob Brown:

No. It would be contrary to normal practice to interfere in this way. Moreover these are matters which essentially depend upon local circumstances and regulation in the way suggested would import an undesirable rigidity into the system.

hon. Friend complaining about traffic delays due to the resurfacing works.

It is the normal practice to erect warning and diversion signs and, additionally where possible, to advise motorists by radio through the Motoring Advice Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation. These measures are in use during the current resurfacing operations.
