Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the number of students enrolled at evening institutes both nationally and in the county of Essex in the years 1960, 1963 and 1969.

None. The marking of G.C.E. and C.S.E. examination papers is the responsibility of the individual examining bodies. The present nature of these examinations imposes very strict limits on the use of mechanical devices for marking papers. I cannot answer for examinations conducted by other bodies.
