asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total annual cost of defence establishments in Wales.

Mr. John Morris:

I regret that the information requested is not readily available. Total defence expenditure in Wales is estimated to be running at a rate of about £70 million a year at the moment, and about 11,600 civilians are employed in Ministry of Defence establishments in Wales.
