HC Deb 15 May 1970 vol 801 cc419-20W
Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the future of adult education in Scotland.

Mr. Ross:

I consider there is a need to review the provision of adult education in Scotland. I have therefore appointed a committee under the chairmanship of Professor K. J. W. Alexander, Professor of Economics, University of Strathclyde with the following remit: To consider the aims appropriate to leisure-time courses for adults which are educational but not specifically vocational; to examine the extent to which these are being achieved at present; and, with due regard to the need to use available resources most effectively, to make recommendations.
