asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will call for reports from chief constables as to what extra costs were incurred by the police in the course of their duties preventing unlawful demonstrations during the recent visit of the Soviet Union swimming team.

Mr. Ross:

I am informed by the Chief Constable of Edinburgh that no demonstrations took place during the recent visit of the Soviet Union swimming team to the city and that no extra costs were incurred by the police.
