Mr. Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the estimated value of schemes for trunk roads, including motorways, urban principal roads and inter-urban principal roads, respectively, in preparation, as distinct from schemes in progress or programmed, at 31st March, 1970.

Mr. George Thomas:

About £88½ million for trunk roads and motorways. All inter-urban principal road schemes and all but £3 million worth of urban principal road schemes have been firmly programmed. The £3 million worth of urban schemes are in the preparation list.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the total estimated commitments outstanding on 31st March, 1970, and the total estimated new commitments in 1970–71, in respect of new construction and major improvements for trunk roads and for principal roads and loans to highway authorities, respectively.
