HC Deb 13 May 1970 vol 801 c277W
Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many farmers have left agriculture in the South-West Region since 1964.

Mr. Mackie:

I have no information on the number of farmers who have left the industry, but between June, 1964 and June, 1969 the number of holdings in the South-West Region in the Agricultural Cenusus fell by about 13,000. Within that total, some 8,000 holdings were excluded from the Census in 1968 because the agricultural production from them was not significant.
