60. Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a list of the Polaris and Fleet submarines which have either been constructed, or are in process of completion, in British shipyards; and whether he will indicate the final cost of those completed, or the latest estimated cost of those under construction, in each case.

Mr. John Morris:

A list of Polaris submarines which have been accepted into H.M. Service with figures of final or estimated final cost is as follows:

" Revenge " 38. 6

For Fleet submarines, the list is as follows:

" Warspite " 21. 5

The following Fleet submarines have not yet been accepted into H.M. Service, and for this reason it is not the practice, on commercial grounds, to publish their final estimated cost:

  • "Churchill".
  • "Conqueror".
  • "Courageous".
  • "Swiftsure".
  • "SSN 08".
