HC Deb 12 May 1970 vol 801 cc256-7W
44. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what inter-Departmental reviews have been made of the policy of sanctions against Rhodesia since the declaration of a republic.

Mr. Foley:

I have nothing to add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend to the hon. Member on 4th May.—[Vol. 801, c. 1.]

45. Mr. Fernyhough

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when the countries which have, in the last two months, withdrawn their consular representatives from Rhodesia advised him of their intention to do so.

Mr. Foley:

The Governments of the following countries have closed their consular offices in Southern Rhodesia since the 2nd March: Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, West Germany and the United States of America. They gave notice of their intention to close on various dates between 4th and 17th March. In addition, on 30th April, the Portuguese Government announced that their Consul-General in Salisbury would be withdrawn. He left on 9th May though the office remains open. There are now no consular officials in Southern Rhodesia holding our authorisation.
