HC Deb 12 May 1970 vol 801 c250W
38. Mr. George Rogers

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that the proposal to the driving instruction firms under the Road Traffic (Driving Instruction) Act, 1967, for the licensing of trainee instructors, providing one trainee to four full-time instructors, will lead to redundancies in some firms and will handicap recruitment thus reducing road safety; and whether he will take steps to postpone the operative date or alter the ratio for at least one year to enable firms to reorganise.

Mr. Bob Brown:

The proposals to which my hon. Friend refers are to be the subject of further discussion between my Department and the interests concerned before any decision is taken. But I see no reason to postpone the introduction of compulsory registration on 1st August, 1970.
