asked the Secretary of State for Defence why Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships fly an ensign from the jackstaff.

Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships follow the general practice of vessels in the public service entitled to fly the Blue Ensign. They fly, at the jackstaff, a jack which, though the same design as the Ensign, is smaller in size and square in shape.
