asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many physically disabled children from Swindon attended the National Children's Home, Harpenden, Valence School, Westerham, the Chailey Heritage Craft School, Lewes, and other residential schools for physically disabled children, respectively.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the average annual cost per child of sending physically disabled children to residential schools; and what is the average annual cost per physically disabled child from Swindon.

Miss Bacon:

The average fee for residence and tuition at non-maintained residential special schools for physically handicapped children is £905 per annum. The average fee paid for the five children from Swindon at non-maintained special schools is £890 per annum. At the hospital school in Chailey the local education authority pays for tuition only a fee of £330 per annum.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many children of school age in Swindon are physically handicapped; and how many of these can be educated at ordinary schools.

Sixty-two children of school age in Swindon are known to the county authority as having some degree of physical handicap. Of these, 51 are attending ordinary schools.
