HC Deb 11 May 1970 vol 801 cc240-1W
Mr. Kenyon

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much increase in the milk price he estimates the producer retailer will receive, after the Milk Marketing Board has increased the levy in October.

Mr. Hoy:

The Board has determined the levy payable from 1st April, 1970, so as to give producer retailers the appropriate benefit from the increase in the guarantee made at the Annual Review and an increase in the margin for retail distribution recently approved by the Government. The Board has further stated that in the year ending 31st March, 1971, it will aim to give producer retailers a price advantage of 7d. a gallon compared with wholesale producers. I am not aware of any proposal to increase the levy in October, but if and when the retail price is increased it is to be expected that the Milk Marketing Board will adjust its levy in order to maintain the appropriate level of return for produced retailers over the year as a whole.
