HC Deb 11 May 1970 vol 801 cc208-9W
52. Mr. Milne

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to bring up to date the food hygiene regulations to meet present-day requirements.

Dr. John Dunwoody:

Revised Food Hygiene (General) Regulations have been drafted and submitted to the Food Hygiene Advisory Council. We hope to make the regulations next month.

53. Mr. Milne

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a general review of the Food and Drugs Acts with a view to introducing legislation to enable those employed in the handling of food to receive protective clothing as a condition of employment in the interests of food hygiene.

Dr. John Dunwoody:

We have no proposals for early general revision of the Act, the operation of which is kept under constant review, but we are at present giving special consideration to the question of protective clothing in the light of the representations made by my hon. Friend.
