§ Mr. Maudlingasked the Prime Minister whether, following the recent trial and acquittal of Mr. Will Owen on charges under the Official Secrets Act, he will consult the Chairman of the Security Commission under the procedure he announced to the House on 26th March, 1969.
§ The Prime Minister:Yes. In accordance with the procedure announced on 26th March, 1969, I intend to ask the Chairman of the Security Commission, which is concerned with investigating possible breaches or failure of security arrangements in the public service, to examine a factual statement and give his opinion whether an investigation by the Security Commission of any of the circumstances surrounding this particular case would be likely to serve a useful purpose. When I have received this advice I will consult the right hon. Gentleman the Leader of the Opposition before deciding whether or not to refer the matter to the Commission.—[Vol. 780, c. 311.]
