HC Deb 07 May 1970 vol 801 cc162-3W
47. Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what research has been undertaken by his Department into the relationship between comprehensive education and the problems of social equality and academic opportunity.

Mr. Edward Short:

None. Since 1954 there has been overwhelming research evidence to show that the greatest obstacle to the achievement of equality of educational opportunity has been the selection and segregating of children at 11 plus.
