§ Mr. Hornerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable as to how many recruits joined and how many men left the West Midlands Police Force in the years 1967, 1968 and 1969, respectively; and what is the present deficiency of manpower between the authorised establishment and actual strength.
§ Mr. Elystan Morgan:Recruitment and wastage since 1st January, 1967, is shown in the following table. The authorised establishment is 1,968, and the strength of the force at 31st March was 1,410. The first quarter of 1970 has shown a welcome increase in recruitment.
