HC Deb 05 May 1970 vol 801 c71W
60. Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what proposals he has now received from the Greater London Council for the house-building programme in 1970 to 1974; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Greenwood:

The Greater London Council decided in January this year to reduce its agreed programmes in the immediate future from 9,000 a year to 7,000. In the years 1972–73 and 1973–74 its programmes drop still further to 6,750 and 6,250 respectively. I met the Leader of the Council before this decision was made and urged on him that the council should maintain its target of at least 9,000 dwellings a year at any rate for the time being, and I regret that this has not been done.
