HC Deb 05 May 1970 vol 801 cc104-5W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, in view of Her Majesty's Government's policy to consider an amendment to Great Britain's draft on biological weapons to include toxins, in response to representations, and, in view of the subsequent decision of the United States Government to renounce this weapon, he will now amend the United Kingdom draft to cover toxins.

Mr. Foley:

As my right hon. and noble Friend the Minister of State told the Conference of the Committee on Disarmament in Geneva on 30th April this year, Her Majesty's Government consider that the British draft Convention for the Prohibition of Biological Methods of Warfare should specifically cover toxins. We believe that the wording which has already been suggested for this purpose by the United States Representative in the Committee will meet the case.
