HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 c19W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the trend of Welsh emigration to England and other countries over the last six years.

Mr. George Thomas:

The information available relates to 1965–66 and to the five year period 1961–66 when 36,010 and 109,590 persons respectively left Wales for other areas in Great Britain. In both periods the number of persons who left other areas in Great Britain for Wales exceeded the number who moved the other way. People moving into Wales are not asked if they are Welsh people returning home.
