HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 c56W
Mr. Bishop

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) if he is aware of the recommendations of the Consumer Council that all motor tyres should be marked as either radial or crossply and preferably as either tube, or tubeless, according to type, under section 8 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968; and if he will take appropriate action to implement the recommendation;

(2) if he is aware of the Consumer Council's recommendation that there should be a requirement under Section 8 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 for the cartons in which electric light bulbs are sold for domestic use to give not only wattage and voltage but also an indication of the expected life and light output; and if he will take steps to implement the recommendation;

(3) If he is aware of the Consumer Council's recommendation under Section 8 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 that there should be a requirement that sheets should be marked with their size allowing for normal shrinkage or indicating the expected size after several washes, having regard to the different fibres or material used; and if he will take steps to implement the recommendation.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody:

These three proposals are still under consideration.
