asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what number of students in England and Wales are accommodated in students' residences and what proportion this is of the total.

Mr. Fowler:

It is estimated that in the Autumn 1968. there were 115,600 full-time and sandwich students in higher education in England and Wales accommodated in collgge, halls of residence, and hostels which represents 32.4 per cent. of the total.
