HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 cc48-9W
Mr. Woodnutt

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will send a circular to retired civil servants setting out the posts which do not attract abatement of pension under Section 12 of the Superannuation Act, 1965, and informing ex-doctors in the Prison Service that employment during retirement with Social Security, board member, and in hospitals and prisons as locums is not a service in a public Department and does not attract abatement of pension.

Mr. Shore:

No. All retiring civil servants are given a leaflet giving general information concerning the possible effect of such re-employment which asks them to consult the Department that pays their pension before they accept re-employment in Government service. It would be impracticable to detail what employments were, or were not, affected by Section 12 of the Superannuation Act, 1965. The present procedure, if followed, should ensure that individuals know how they stand.
