HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 cc43-4W
80. Mr. Wylie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the number of life prisoners released on licence since 1965; and in how many of these cases the decision to release was in accordance with the advice of the Lord Justice General and the trial judge, when available.

Mr. Ross:

Nine. In one case, a prisoner originally released in 1964 and subsequently recalled, there was no consultation with the judiciary. In two cases the date of release was in accordance with the judges' views. In the remaining six cases the judges expressed reservations about the date of release originally proposed; in five of these cases the dates of release were postponed for varying periods.
