HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 c24W
Sir G. de Freitas

asked the Minister of Technology (1) whether he will publish in HANSARD a table showing how the new international system of indicating the sizes of footwear will correspond to the present British sizes;

(2) on what date the new international system for indicating the size of footwear will be adopted in the United Kingdom and in the countries of the European Economic Community, respectively, from information available to him from international sources.

Dr. Ernest A. Davies:

Certain problems relating to the application of the International system of footwear sizing known as "Mondopoint " have yet to be resolved but a chart, prepared by the Shoe and Allied Trades Research Association, indicating the relationship between various shoe-sizing systems now in use and Mondopoint has been placed in the Library of the House. The British Footwear Manufacturers' Federation has set a provisional target date of 1972 for the introduction of the Mondopoint system by its members. No European Economic Community country is as yet fully committed to adopting this system.
