Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what was the percentage rate of total unemployment and male unemployment, respectively, in the Arbroath and Carnoustie Employment Exchange area in April, 1970, and at each previous April count since 1945.

The current series of unemployment statistics started with the introduction of the National Insurance scheme in July, 1948. Following is the information for each April from 1949 to 1970:
