§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that in 1969 the balance in France's favour on trade with the United Kingdom was £13 million; and to what extent he estimates that this trading deficit will increase or decrease on Great Britain's entry into the Common Market.
§ Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody:The difference of £12 million in 1969 between imports from France valued c.i.f. and exports f.o.b. does not take account of valuation and coverage differences between the import and export figures: if allowance were made for these differences, our trade could have been in surplus. As to the second part of the question, I cannot add to the information given in Cmnd. 4289.
