40. Sir F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what are the current figures of registered unemployed in Torbay compared with the same period in 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969, respectively; what percentage this represents of the total working population in Torbay; and if she will make a statement.

* The percentage rates are for the Torbay travel-to-work area as currently defined which comprises the Employment Exchange areas of Bovey Tracey, Brixham, Newton Abbot, Paignton, Teignmouth, Torquay and Totnes.
Only 359 of those unemployed on 9th March, 1970 were last employed in manufacturing; 586 were last employed in the hotel and catering industries.
