HC Deb 26 March 1970 vol 798 c485W
Mr. St. John-Stevas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will obtain a report from the chief constable as to the steps taken to bring the Essex Police Force up to strength.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

I understand that the chief constable does everything possible to bring the attractions of a career in the police service to the notice of prospective recruits. I hope that he will be assisted by national publicity, the recent interim increase of police pay, and the further review shortly to be undertaken, as well as by the use of force recruitment officers, the establishment of a residential school for cadets, and through exhibitions.
