§ Mr. Ashtonasked the Minister for the Civil Service whether the Government has yet reached a decision on the implementatiton of the remaining stages of the pay increases recommended for the Higher Civil Service in last year's report of the Standing Advisory Committee.
§ Mr. ShoreThe Standing Advisory Committee recommended in its Report last year that the salary of Permanent Secretaries should be increased to £14,000; that of Deputy Secretaries to £9,000; and that of Under Secretaries to £6,750.
In her Written Reply of 11th July, 1969, to her hon. Friend the Member for Sheffield, Brightside, the then Paymaster-General announced that the Government accepted that the proposed new rates were right in principle and should be implemented in stages as the requirements of incomes policy permitted. The first stage of the proposed increases was implemented on 1st July, 1969. The Government has now decided to implement the 521W second stage increase from 1st July, 1970. The increases involved are:
