HC Deb 25 March 1970 vol 798 c423W
63. Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is satisfied that the Teachers' Special Recruitment (Scotland) Scheme has provided sufficient recruits from married men with families to support; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross

The number of men over age 26 receiving assistance under the Scheme has increased from 863 in 1966–67 to 1,252 in the current session. In addition to allowances for their dependants, such men are entitled to a mature student's allowance if their income prior to entering the Scheme was above a certain level. The statistics kept by my Department do not distinguish married men with families.
